Authentic Happiness is the title book and website of Dr Martin E.P. Seligman, author of ‘Learned Optimism‘. Dr Seligman is one of the key proponents in the field of ‘Positive Psychology’.
Positive Psychology focuses on a persons strengths rather than weaknesses, and asserts that happiness is created, rather than the result of good genes or luck. Dr Seligman teaches readers that happiness can be cultivated by identifying and using many of the strengths and traits that they already possess–including kindness, originality, humor, optimism, zest, and generosity. A key concept is that of Signature Strengths – we are happiest when we we can express our signature strengths in our daily lives.
The Authentic Happiness website contains much information on Positive Psychology, as well as around 18 free questionnaires on various aspects of Positive Psychology. If you do nothing else, we recommend you take the Signature Strengths questionnaire as it is very illuminating.
